Whats the longest you can carry a baby before you get an abortion

Well you can have an ''abortion'' at any stage of pregnany for medical reasons. For instance, my cousin found out at 5-6 months that her baby had serious medical issues and would not survive for more than a few minutes when born. She had to have the baby taken out by C-section I think. Now whether this is considered an ''abortion I do not know.

In Australia, abortion can happen up to 20 weeks.

New laws are being debated in Parliament as we speak as to whether this should be changed to 24 weeks.

After this time, abortion can only occur if consented to by 2 independent doctors if there are serious health concerns (for the baby or mother).

You r getting A LOT OF FALSE INFORMATION HERE! Roe v. Wade made abortion legal for all nine months of pregnancy. It is legal as long as they kill the baby before he makes it out of the womb. The mother can be full term & in labor & they reach up & pierce the baby is skull with scissors on the way out (partial-birth abortion). The so-called ''mother is health'' requirement is stretched to mean ''emotional health basically allowing a woman to kill her unborn child at any time for any reason. Most people r very misinformed about the truth of the slaughter currently going on in this country. Most of the people who answered ur question r evidence of this. The U.S. has some of the most barbaric abortion laws in the world.

i'm not sure how to answer this. i'm pro-choice & i do think that it is a woman is right, but at the same time i do think that it is wrong. if the baby is healthy & there is no risk to the mother then i do not think that it should be carried out, but at the same time if the mom was raped or is really young or have a health problem that will make things much worst then maybe it is the best thing, but other things should be considered as well. what about adoption? in this country i think that u can get one up to ur 24 week..when they believe the viability of the baby is not possiblel.. but with the great leapsinducing that is not really true anymore. some babies at 24 weeks or younger survived & so we have to now think of how late is too late for an abortion? i think that it has become a very hot subject that has no winners on either side..
i do think that is our right & we should have the choice, i'm glade that i was able to make that choice, but at the same time we do have to remember that it is a life. i know that i will never forget that. mine was done at 9 weeks i know that i could not do it any later then that.we have to remember that after 8 weeks a fetus is fully formed & has all of the things that it will need to live.. after that it is just growing bigger. i think that it should not be done after 20 weeks..

Well, if a person wanted an abortion that would depend on what state they r in. However, doctors have been able to keep babies alive with minimal outside intervention as early as 28 & even 24 weeks old (my little sister in one of those 28 week miracles). Generally, if a doctor has to perform an abortion because the mother is life is at risk it would be around this time in her pregnancy, if it was later most would attempt to perform a C-Section. There have been cases where a C-Section was also harmful & families may have to make a decision to choose between the baby & the mother.
The Abortion topic is highly controversial because of Roe vs. Wade, which began in Texas & it was illegal at the time. McCorvey (Roe) claimed that her pregnancy was due to rape from a Texas official & that it impinged on her right to privacy, it also brought the issue of the use of contraceptives & brought up scenarios of women that may have had abortions because they could not afford to have additional children. This is being raised again because of the morning after pill, which was not available in the 70s, but could prevent abortions which usually occur within the further part of ur first trimester.
It also raises issues on insurance companies covering birth control costs (many do not) & if women that receive state medical aid receiving abortions.

You can have an abortion clear up into the end of the 2nd trimester.
My girlfriend wanted me to loan her $1200 to get an abortion for her 13 yr old daughter, & I refused. It nauseated me. She had a preterm baby girl 2 days after her 8th grade graduation & less than 2 weeks after she asked me to loan her the money. It made me sick!
I see the little girl about once a month now. She is 7 yrs old & such a pretty little thing. Her mother is pregnant now by some skank she does not even know & thinks its great. I am totally disgusted.

In the US I believe it is up to 24 weeks - thats about 6 months pregnant. :(

In the US, each State determins the answer to that question. The general accepted cut off is 12 weeks. Some states also have provisions for later term abortions beyond the first trimester (12 weeks)
